There is just something about putting on a new pair of shoes. When we’re little we want to show everyone how high we can jump and how fast we can run all because of our new shoes. If you’re like me as a small child, it was an absolute requirement that you take off your old shoes, place them in the new box and proudly wear you new shoes for the rest of the day.
New shoes seem to change us. A new pair of work boots offer support. First day of school shoes offer a new beginning. A new pair of fancy heels gives us something to look forward to. And a little girl’s first “heels” that go “click click” just hit on a totally different level.
But do they really change anything except the condition of our feet? I would say not really but they sure do make us feel things differently. I can attest to that as I set out for my first walk in my new Nike’s after Christmas. I took the same route, the same steps, even the same socks… but everything felt different.
A New Year is kind of the same feeling. It is literally one day forward from the day before, but it’s a step into an entirely different world. It’s a blank slate, a fresh book full of chapters to be written, a book closed that was lived last year… leaving behind the good, the bad, the ugly and everything in between. Everything is the same, but everything is different and I think we need that. A chance to step into something new even if it’s just a number we occasionally write.
We need a fresh start.
We need a starting point.
We need a page one.
So whether you have a list of goals a mile long, just a deep sigh that you made it through or something in between, we wish you the happiest close to 2024 and pray for the most blessed start 2025 with more hope and promise than a fresh pair of shoes.
